Sunstrand Adding Machine.

Your Sub-Committee have had demonstrated to them the working of the Sunstrand Adding Machine, which has been on trial for some time past at the Sparkbrook branch. The trial has proved very satisfactory and there is no doubt that the use of such machines at the various branches would prove exceedingly useful and would save both time and labour.

Your Sub-Committee recommend that the purchase of two Sunstrand Adding Machines be authorised at the sum of £65 each.

1675  RESOLVED:- That the General Manager be authorised to purchase two "Sunstrand" Adding Machines at the sum of £65 each.

General Purposes Sub-Committee: February 9th 1925

673 On Minute No 663, the Sub-Committee were informed that the attic of 161a, Stratford Road, let by Mrs Crump, had now been vacated, but that the room on the ground floor which had also been let by her was still occupied by a married couple.

The Minute was continued.

Finance Sub-Committee: February 9th 1925

On Minute No 299 (Rates - 163, Stratford Road) - the General Manager reported that this matter would be adjusted in due course, and it was:

The General Manager was instructed to obtain possession of the whole of the dwellinghouse as soon as possible.

General Purposes Sub-Committee: May 11th 1925

729 On Minutes Nos 663 and 711, the Sub-Committee were informed that Mr Crump had been found employment in the Gas Department. Mr Crump was endeavouring to obtain a house through the Estates Department, and had promised to give notice to quit to the sub-tenant.

General Purposes Sub-Committee: July 13th 1925

On Minute Nos 663 and 711 - the Sub-Committee were informed that Mr and Mrs Crump having secured a Corporation House had made arrangements to give up possession of No 161a Stratford Road. The Sub-tenancy however, which had been created by the action of Mrs Crump still existed and the Sub-tenants had not complied with the written notice given to them by Mr Crump to give up possession of the rooms occupied.

The General Manager recommends that the enlargement of the Sparkbrook Branch should now be proceeded with. He pointed out that the narrowness of the Bank hall was a great inconvenience to depositors and the same would not have been constructed, if it had been possible to obtain possession of certain rooms at the time the adaption was made.

773     RESOLVED:- That the General Manager's recommendations be approved and the City Surveyor be asked to submit proposals for the enlargement of the Sparkbrook Branch; also that the General Manager be instructed to make arrangements with reference to the sub-tenancy as he may think fit.

Bank Committee: July 20th 1925

The General Manager reported as to the position with regard to the tenancy of No 161A Stratford Road. The premises in question had been vacated by Mr and Mrs Crump, but a portion of the accommodation was still occupied by the former sub-tenants (Mr and Mrs Sankey), and it did not appear to be possible to obtain possession without going to Court. The General Manager stated that the persons in question were respectable as far as he could ascertain, and he knew nothing against them. They were willing to take the accommodation available after the necessary extension of the Bank premises had been effected.

2137   RESOLVED:- That the General Manager be authorised to make arrangements for such portion of the premises as may be available, after the Bank extensions have been effected, to be tenanted by Mr Sankey.

General Purposes Sub-Committee: October 12th 1925

Bank Committee: November 16th 1925

With reference to the required alterations for the enlargement of the Sparkbrook Branch, the General Manager reported as follows:

Tenders for Sparkbrook alterations.

Since the last meeting of the Committee, the Chairman has considered tenders received for alterations for the enlargement of the Sparkbrook Branch by taking into the Bank a portion of the dwelling accommodation of both houses, and has accepted the tender of Mr F J Briley of Hay Mills, amounting to £1,336, subject to a modification of the line of the building alterations at the rear which will result in some economy.

It is arranged that the matter shall be gone into again by Mr Briley and that he will then send in his revised price.

As Mr Briley carried through the original alterations and his tender was the lowest for the present job, it is desirable that he should carry through the new alterations.

It is recommended that the Chairman's action be approved and the matter left with the Chairman and the General Manager to deal with.

2183   RESOLVED:- That the action of the Chairman be confirmed in accepting the tender of Mr F J Briley for the alterations and enlargement of the Sparkbrook branch at the sum of £1,336, this amount to be suitably reduced consequent on the modification of the line of the building alterations at the rear of the premises, and that the Chairman and General Manager be empowered to agree a suitable reduction with the Contractor in respect of such notifications; also that the Town Clerk be instructed to enter into the necessary contract and affix the Corporate Seal thereto.

General Purposes Sub-Committee: December 14th 1925

The General Manager reported that Mr F J Briley, the Contractor for the alterations at the Sparkbrook Branch, had offered to place securities to the value of £1,000 at present retained in respect of the Acocks Green Branch, as a security in respect of the alterations at Sparkbrook. The General Manager being of opinion that this offer was reasonable, it was:

830     RESOLVED:- That the arrangement be approved.
