An unusual type of error occurred in relation to the 103rd  pre-printed ledger column - the clerk has duplicated a transfer from Head Office branch, for which Account Number 94 had already been allocated.

Account Number 915 was opened on March 19th 1921 by Stanley A Guy, who became the Bank's fifth General Manager on December 7th 1964. Mr Guy was born in 1905 and joined the Bank on October 25th 1920. The ledger for his account (see below) shows that he was an assiduous saver - by August 1924 he had accumulated £54. 10s. 0d.

A deposit of £5. 3s. 0d. was made to the account on July 17th 1922.

 

At a meeting of the Bank's General Purposes Sub-Committee held on June 19th 1922 it was recommended that the sum of £5 be awarded to Mr Guy as a prize for achieving First Place in the Junior Clerks' Examination.

Bearwood's first ledger shows that 2,000 accounts were opened in the period from November 3rd 1919 to November 11th 1922. The branch's progress in this period is also shown by the monthly statistics for the amounts of Deposits and Payments (right).

 

 

 

 

 

 

The amount of deposits increased in the same period as follows:

1923: £68,954

 

The branch was moved to permanent premises on September 7th 1929,

and the value of total balances continued to increase until by March 31st 1937, only Head Office branch had a greater total amount of Deposits.
