General Purposes Sub-Committee: January 12th 1931

 

On Minute No 1605 (extension of Selly Oak premises) the General Manager submitted two alternative schemes prepared by Mr Stewart Evans, Architect, the one scheme containing provision for bank premises with one flat at an estimated cost of £1,600 and the other scheme providing for bank premises and two flats at an estimated cost of £1,800.

 

After consideration, it was:

 

1620   RESOLVED:- That the General Committee be recommended to approve the scheme submitted for the provision of bank premises and two flats at an estimated cost of £1,800 and that the General Manager be directed to instruct the Architect to prepare a complete plan for submission to the General Committee.

3950 The following report of the General Purposes Sub-Committee was presented:

 

Extension of Selly Oak Premises.

 

Your Sub-Committee have considered plans prepared by Mr Stewart Evans, (Architect) for suitably enlarging the Selly Oak Branch premises, and have approved of a scheme which provides for two flats over the Bank, the estimated cost of enlargement and conversion being £1800. A plan of the proposed alterations will be available at the meeting of your Committee, and it is recommended that, on approval being given thereto, the General Manager should obtain tenders for carrying out the alterations.

 

Upon consideration the paragraph in the report relating to the Selly Oak Branch premises, plans showing details of the proposals were submitted, after consideration of which, it was:

 

3952  RESOLVED:- That the scheme submitted for the enlargement and conversion of the Selly Oak Branch (including provision of two flats), at an estimated cost of £1,800, be approved; and that the General Manager be instructed to obtain tenders for submission to the General Purposes Sub-Committee.

 

February 9th 1931: General Purposes Sub-Committee

 

On Minutes Nos 1605 and 1620 (Extension of Selly Oak premises), the General Manager reported that he had advertised for tenders, but the same would not be received in time for the next meeting of the General Committee.

 

1635   RESOLVED:- That the General Committee be recommended to authorise the Chairman and the Chairman of the General Committee, with the General Manager, to accept the most suitable tender for carrying out the work, and to instruct the Town Clerk to prepare and seal any necessary contract in the matter.

3982 The following report of the General Purposes Sub-Committee was presented:

 

Extension of Selly Oak Premises.

 

Your Sub-Committee report that tenders have been  invited for the carrying out of this extension. As the tenders will not be received in time for the next meeting of the General Committee, your Sub-Committee recommend that the Chairman, and the Chairman of the Sub-Committee, with the General Manager, be authorised to accept the most suitable tender for carrying out the work, and that the Town Clerk be instructed to prepare and seal any necessary contract in the matter.

 

3984   RESOLVED:- That the Chairman and the Chairman of the General Purposes Sub-Committee with the General Manager, be authorised to accept the most suitable tender for the extension of the Selly Oak Branch premises and that the Town Clerk be instructed to prepare and affix the Corporate Seal to any necessary Contract.

 

General Purposes Sub-Committee: March 9th 1931

 

On Minutes Nos 1605 and 1635 (Extension of Selly Oak Premises), the Sub-Committee were informed that the Chairman and the Chairman of the General Committee, with the General Manager, had received and opened tenders as follows for the carrying out of this work, and had accepted the tender of Mr E M Squire at the sum of £1,950:

1643   RESOLVED:- That the General Committee be recommended to confirm the action in accepting the tender in question and to instruct the Town Clerk to prepare and seal the necessary document, and that Minutes Nos 1605 and 1635 be discharged.

4016 The following report of the General Purposes Sub-Committee was presented:

 

Extension of Selly Oak Premises.

 

As authorised by your Committee, tenders were invited for the extension of the Selly Oak premises and your Sub-Committee recommend that the tender of Mr E M Squire at the sum of £1,950 be accepted for the carrying out of the work, also that the action taken in instructing the Town Clerk to prepare and seal the necessary documents, be confirmed.

 

4019   RESOLVED:- That the acceptance of the tender of Mr E M Squire at the sum of £1950 for the required extension of the Selly Oak premises be confirmed; that the action taken in instructing the Town Clerk to prepare and seal the necessary Contract be approved, and that Minute No 3984 be discharged.

 

Bank Committee: April 20th 1931

 

On Minutes Nos 3984 and 4019 (Extension of Selly Oak Premises), the Town Clerk presented the following report as to the completion of the contracts with Mr E M Squire:

Bank Committee: July 20th 1931

 

On Minute No 3608 (523 and 525, Bristol Road) the following report of the Town Clerk was submitted as to the redemption of tithe rent charge:

 

July 20th 1931

REDEMPTION OF TITHE RENTCHARGE.

No 525 Bristol Road, Selly Oak.

 

I have to report that the Minister of Agriculture & Fisheries has ordered the redemption of the tithe rentcharge on certain land in the Parish of Northfield. The above property is included within the area covered by the Order.

 

The share of the Redemption Money and Expenses apportioned to your Committee is 4s. 1d and this has been paid.

 

The annual Rentcharge continues to be payable while redemption is in progress, and will not be extinguished until after payment of the instalment of the Rentcharge for the half-year in which the total amount of the redemption money for such Rentcharge is collected and paid over.

 

It is unlikely that your Committee will be required to pay any Annual Rentcharge as other owners are concerned to a much greater extent, and I therefore suggest that the minute be discharged.

 

4147   RESOLVED:- That the foregoing report of the Town Clerk be approved, the payment of the redemption money and expenses therein mentioned confirmed, and Minute No 3608 discharged.

 

4159 The following report of the Finance Sub-Committee was presented:

- letting of one flat to Mr Sidney Smith, a police officer in the "A" Division, at a rental of £26 per annum plus rates and cost of internal repairs.

- letting of one flat to Mr John Clements, a police officer in the "A" Division, at a rental of £26 per annum plus rates and cost of internal repairs.

 

4160  RESOLVED:- That the arrangements made, as indicated in the foregoing report of the Finance Sub-Committee, for the letting of the flats at Selly Oak Branch on the terms mentioned in the report, be approved; and that the Town Clerk be instructed to prepare any necessary documents, affixing the Corporate Seal thereto, if necessary.

 

Bank Committee: October 19th 1931

 

With regard to the letting of flats at the Cotteridge and Selly Oak Branches the Committee were advised that as these lettings were for yearly tenancies only there was no necessity to seal any documents and it was accordingly:

Bank Committee: March 20th 1933

 

The General Manager submitted particulars of applications received for the tenancy of the flat at the Selly Oak Branch, and it was:

 

4704   RESOLVED:- That arrangements be made for the letting of the flat at the Selly Oak Branch to Mr George Turfrey of 36 Highfield Road, Saltley, for a period of 3 years from 25th March at a rental of £26 per annum, the tenant to be responsible for rates and internal repairs, and that the Town Clerk be instructed to prepare any necessary documents, affixing the Corporate Seal thereto if required.

 

Bank Committee: August 23rd 1933

 

A letter from the General Manager of the Estates Department was submitted, drawing attention to the fact that the Dale Road Tram Depot was available for disposal, but as the premises were not required by the Bank it was:

Finance Sub-Committee: June 18th 1934

 

Your Sub-Committee report that the following arrangements have been made for the letting of the flat at Selly Oak:

 

P Logan: period of 3 years at an annual rental of £26, tenant to be responsible for rates and internal repairs.

Report of the Finance & General Purposes Sub-Committee: February 18th 1935

 

The following tender has been accepted for painting and decorating at Selly Park:

Finance & General Purposes Sub-Committee:  July 20th 1936

 

Your Sub-Committee recommend that the following arrangements be made for the re-letting of Selly Oak flat, and that the Town Clerk be instructed to prepare any necessary documents, affixing the Corporate Seal thereto if required:

 

The flat to be let to Miss J Brown, of 9, Clarence Road, Erdington, at a rental of £26 per annum, payable weekly, for a period of one year certain from 24th June 1936, afterwards terminable on one quarter's notice, the tenant to be responsible for rates, water charges and internal repairs.

  

Finance & General Purposes Sub-Committee: May 24th 1937

 

Your Sub-Committee report that arrangements have been made for the letting of the flat at the Selly Oak branch to Mr Henry Drew for a period of one year certain and thereafter subject to the usual quarterly notice, at a rental of £26 per annum, the tenant to be responsible for rates and internal repairs.

  

Bank Committee: January 17th 1938

 

The Committee were informed that Councillor Martineau had authorised the letting of the Selly Oak Flat to Mr F J Bishop at a rental of £26 per annum payable weekly for a period of one year certain, subsequently quarterly, the tenant to be responsible for rates.

 

Report of the Town Clerk: February 18th 1938

 

I understand the proposed tenancy with Mr F J Bishop, of the flat at the Selly Oak Branch, will not be completed and I recommend that this Minute be discharged.

 

Bank Committee: February 21st 1938

 

The Committee were informed that the Chairman of the Finance & General Purposes Sub-Committee had considered  applications for the tenancy of the flat at the Selly Oak Branch, and had accepted the application of Mr A H Briscoe for a period of one year from 25th March certain, subsequently quarterly, at a rental of £26 per annum, tenant paying rates and being responsible for internal repairs.

 

6157   RESOLVED:- That the foregoing arrangement be confirmed, and the Town Clerk instructed to prepare and affix the Corporate Seal to any necessary documents.
