General Purposes Sub-Committee: July 9th 1928

 

The General Manager reported that he had received a request from the Ideal Benefit Society to remove the brick wall between the Bank premises and the Small Heath branch of the Society.

 

1299   RESOLVED:- That the Chairman and the Chairman of the General Committee with the General Manager be instructed to inspect the wall in question and report thereon.

1310 On Minute No 1299 (Wall at Small Heath premises), the Sub-Committee were informed that the Chairman had inspected the wall in question, and was of opinion that no action should be taken, in which the Sub-Committee acquiesced.

4277   RESOLVED:- That the action taken in accepting tenders as indicated in the foregoing report, for painting etc. at the branches therein mentioned, be confirmed.

 

Bank Committee: June 19th 1933

 

4785   The following report of the General Purposes Sub-Committee was presented:

 

Flat at the Small Heath Branch.

 

Your Sub-Committee report that the lessee of the flat at the Small Heath Branch (Mr Hodierne) who has vacated the flat, has been informed that, providing he will pay the rent up to June 24th, he would be released from further obligations under the lease, which would not expire until the 25th December 1934. This course has been adopted in order to take advantage of the opportunity to make certain necessary improvements to the messroom and domestic accommodation at the Small Heath Branch.

 

The General Manager has, accordingly, been instructed to ask Mr J B Surman to submit his proposals for such alterations.

 

The General Manager submitted a communication from Mr Frank Wilde as to the question of the payment of the rent due by the tenant.

 

4788   RESOLVED:- That the proposal to release Mr Hodierne, the lessee of the flat at the Small Heath Branch, from the terms of his lease, subject to the payment of the rent due up to the 24th June 1933, at such date as Mr Wilde may consider expedient, and the action taken in connection with the making of certain improvements to the mess room and domestic accommodation at this Branch, be approved.

 

Bank Committee: August 23rd 1933

 

The Assistant General Manager submitted tenders obtained by Mr J B Surman, Architect, for the enlargement of domestic offices at Small Heath Branch and for the extension of storage accommodation, in accordance with the plans prepared by Mr Surman and approved by the Bank Committee. The lowest tender was that of Messrs J & W Malley, of Wills Street, Birmingham, amounting to £398 for the above work (as compared with the Architect's estimate of £350) plus £55 for renovation to the flat.

 

4871   RESOLVED:- That the Chairman and Assistant General Manager be instructed to confer with the Architect with a view to seeing whether any economy could be effected which would bring the cost in closer proximity to the estimate given by Mr Surman, and with power to accept a tender in the matter; and that the Town Clerk be instructed to enter into a contract (if necessary), affixing the Corporate Seal thereto if required.

4891   With reference to Minute No 4871 on the question of alterations at Small Heath branch, the Chairman stated he had seen the tender of Messrs J & W Malley. The Architect explained that it might be possible to effect some economy if the existing window frames could be re-used and that he would endeavour to arrange accordingly. In view of the explanations given to him the Chairman had instructed the Town Clerk to proceed with the preparation of the contract with Messrs J & W Malley.

 

The action of the Chairman was confirmed.

 

The Town Clerk having raised the question of sureties for the contract with Messrs J & W Malley for alterations at the Small Heath Branch, it was:

 

4892   RESOLVED:- That sureties be dispensed with in this instance.

 

4927   The following report of the Finance Sub-Committee was presented:

 

Small Heath Flat - Arrears of Rent.

 

Owing to the financial circumstances of Mr Hodierne, the former tenant of this flat, it has not been possible to recover the arrears of rent, amounting to £13. 15. 0. Your Committee have, therefore, authorised that this amount be written off as irrecoverable.

 

4928   RESOLVED:- That the arrears of rent owing by Mr Hodierne in respect of his former tenancy of the flat at the Small Heath Branch amounting to £13. 15. 0, be written off as irrecoverable

 

Finance Sub-Committee: October 15th 1934

 

Letting of Flats at Selly Park and Small Heath Branches.

 

Arrangements have been made for the letting of the flat at Selly Park to Mr W T Bushell, and the flat at Small Heath Branch to Mr T Collis at a rental of £40 per annum in each case, the respective tenants to be responsible for rates and internal repairs and the tenancy to be for one year certain and thereafter subject to quarterly tenancy.

 

Your Sub-Committee recommend that the Town Clerk be instructed to prepare any necessary documents.

 

Finance & General Purposes Sub-Committee: February 17th 1936

 

Your Sub-Committee report that a following arrangements have been made for the letting of the flat at Small Heath:

 

Mrs Ellen H Gee - Period of one year at a rent of £35 per annum, determinable thereafter by quarterly notice, the tenant to be responsible for rates and internal repairs.

 

Bank Committee: February 15th 1937

 

The General Manager reported as to the arrangements made for the flat at Small Heath Branch to be let to Mr William Peter Mullins of 25, Hurst Street, at a rental of £35 per annum, the tenant to be responsible for rates and internal repairs, the tenancy to be for one year certain and thereafter by quarterly notice.

 

Report of the Town Clerk: April 9th 1937

 

Minute No: 5891

 

I have to report that in accordance with the above Minute I have completed a Tenancy Agreement with Mr W P Mullins, of the flat at Small Heath, for one year from the 25th March 1937 and thereafter quarterly, at the rent of £35 per annum.

 

Finance & General Purposes Sub-Committee: April 25th 1938

 

The following arrangements have been made for the letting of the Small Heath flat:

 

Joseph Woods on a weekly tenancy of 25/- per week inclusive.

 

Report of the Town Clerk: June 20th 1938

 

With regard to the letting of the flat at the Small Heath branch to Mr Joseph Woods, this is a weekly tenancy and, therefore, an Agreement is not necessary.
